The Catchpenny Farm is the creation of Floyde W. Burnside, Jr., Certified Public Accountant, who decided not to work at the OFFICE on Saturdays unless necessary after almost 30 years of doing so. The Burnside family consists of Floyde and Judy, a school teacher who is a descendant of two pioneer families in South Texas, and their daughters, Kate and Hayley and grandchildren Brooke,Paige and Jane. Together the limousin cattle breed is being improved and the 185 acre farm is actively producing top calves, hay and yes, some day in the future, truffles! The farm is the site of frequent family board of directors meetings, and includes a beautiful farm headquarters-office-cottage-complex and several facilities including a seven acre pond as well as barns, pens, corrals, hay producing equipment, tractors and hunting and fishing opportunities, all strictly business of course! Bluebonnets, watermelons, and wild turkey and deer also entertain visitors. Most sales are by private treaty. Come see us soon and we'll sell you a bull, a show calf, and give you the complete tour. Delivery is available in the official Catchpenny Farm cattle trailer. We are exactly 8 miles south of loop 1604 on Highway 181 coming from San Antonio to Floresville...just 32 minutes from "THE OFFICE".

The limousin breed was chosen and it has proven to be the fastest growing breed in America. The Catchpenny farm management first performed an exhaustive research for the most desirable traits in cattle before selecting the particular animals in the breed i.e. lean meat, easy calving, and high weaning and yearling weights and other EPDs (expected progeny differences.)
The farm is operated using scientific management techniques including strategic planning, capital investment return analyses, and a heavy emphasis on technology and animal and human health concerns and recent developments.
The holostic range management program developed by Dr. Alan Savory is being implemented. Such program involves intensive rotation and management of the pastures to stimulate grasses and reduce health risks from overgrazing or lack of rest of field during insect cycles common to old fashioned cow calf operations. The farm was set up with the help of Dr. Tony Brenton-Rule, an advisor to the World Bank Agriculture Committee and one who structured several innovative farms in New Zealand, Fiiji, and within the United States of America. Mr. Heath E. Simpson, completed coursework at the acclaimed Texas Christian University Ranch Management School and later devised the central barn and pasturing layout as well as the artificial insemination system employed by the farm.
The value in cattle beyond their weight as mere meat is the in their ability to reproduce above average offspring. Our herd has been selected in an attempt to assemble the elite genitics to win grand championships and to outproduce all favorable genetic norms. When you multiply these genes in your herd you will gain in more calves, better traits, and ultimately profit form higher consumer desirability.
Please call, fax, beep, e-mail or send smoke signals for the price of hay and availability of our fine round and square bales of hay.
